Emission-Free Zone
for Pleasure Craft: Amsterdam’s
Bold Move Toward Clean Boating
Amsterdam is taking a leading role in clean boating by establishing an emissions-free zone for pleasure craft by 01/01/2025
This groundbreaking initiative aims to improve air and water quality in the city’s iconic canal system and promote sustainable recreational boating. By 2030, the city plans to implement a zero-emission policy for all transport, including pleasure crafts. Only emission-free pleasure boats will be allowed in the zone in the city centre.
Amsterdam is one of the first cities in the world to set up such a zone specifically for recreational boats, which could soon inspire other cities to follow. As a result, owners of environmentally-friendly boats could find themselves at the forefront of a growing trend toward sustainable waterways.
